Cairns (Queensland)

After a long night on the airport, and a long morning as we had to wait for the free shuttle at Cairns to take us to our hostel we made it!
The hostel is ok, probably one of the nicest ones we have stayed in, unfortunately yet again the campsites are too far away from the center, so have no choice really! We get a free evening meal though so thats a good thing, we even get to go to the bar next door and choose from a small selection!
Cairns itself is lovely, very touristy though, much like Darwin but appears to be on a bigger scale! The esplanade is very nice and hosts an outdoor swimming pool, as here you cant swim in the sea because of the crocs and jelly fish! We havnt been able to take advantage of this though as the weather isnt great at the moment, its warm but windy, and today it has rained so..???
We have decided to hire a car for a couple of days. We are going to go up to cape Tribulation, where there is a rain forest and lots of walks for us to do and yet more plunge and rock pools!! The other great thing is we are going to be able camp. Cape Trib is world heritage listed and it is one of the only places where the rain forest meets the sea! We have also decided to camp a night at Port Douglas (the place where there is killer sting ray?) which is just a little further south of Cape Trib, heard some nice things about the place and obviosuly with what happened to Steve Irwin some not so good things, probs wont do any snorkeling or diving!
We have also been to the Botanical gardens here at Cairns, not as nice as Darwin and apparently lots of sightings of crocs so just had a mooch round, looked at some interesting plants and then walked the long walk back!
