Hervey Bay (Queensland) / Fraser Island 2day Tour

We managed to find, yet again another great campsite, its so much better than the last one anyway ha ha! Mind you we have taken precautions, we have bought a cooler bag with a lock on it this time!!!The campsite is right next to the beach, the views are amazing! We pitched up and then went for a wonder down the esplanade. Its a busy place, lots of bars, restaurants, cafe's lots of people milling around, the good thing is that we are staying in the quieter part of the town and our campsite is mainly where ozzie family's come on vaccation! We decided it was too warm and we couldnt walk any further, funnily enough that decision was made outside the bar, so in we went to rehydrate!
Today we decided to go for a stroll along the esplanade again down to the marina this time! Little did we know the marina was 16k away!!! We made it though and we have sorted ourselves a tour out to Fraser Island tomorrow for 2days!
Fraser Island....wow!!! Its was amazing! We was driven around in the biggest 4wd i have ever seen. There was 15 of us on the tour and one crazy guide! Fraser Island is also known as the 78mile beach, and basically thats because its 78miles long! Its the biggest sand island in the world, although it does have rainforest growing on it and the odd bit of rock! We did a couple of walks through the rainforest, Chris (tour guide) pointed things out to us, like trees, holes that the funnel webb spider lives in...(kept well clear)...erm, lizzards, told us why there is rainforest growing on sand and how the island was discovered and named lots of interesting stuff!
In the afternoon we was having a drive up and round the the champagne pools and we was just along part of the beach looking out of the window when i noticed a "blow" then the whales head came out of the water and then back in, its was so amazing, it was so close to the shore i couldnt beleive it! We also took a walk upto a point called Indian Head, its about 120meters above sea level, we was sat on the rocks looking out over the sea when we saw a pod of whales, lots of sharks rounding up fish a turtle and then to top it off a dolphin came jumping in and out then went off, it was just like our own private show, honestly it was like looking into an aquarium, absolutely awesome and really unexpected!
We did a fair bit of driving around the beach, stopped off at loads of little places, like Eli Creek, Lake Wobbi and Lake Allom where there was loads of little fresh water turtles. We walked over sand dunes which was pretty cool, well not cool bloody roasting but you no what i mean, the dip in the lake at the end was well worth it! We was only there for one night and we stayed at a camp site, we was just expecting your everyday tents but honestly, it was a tent but more like a little hut, it had a double bed in and everything!
Me and Paul, early risers that we are got up at 5am on the last day and walked down to the beach to watch the sunrise, it was pretty perfect, just us and a couple of fishermen to be seen on the beach! Later on that afternoon we had a picnic on the beach and we finally got to see a dingo, it just came out of the woods and started walking upto the van, very good was well impressed, all thats left to see now is a koala and a wombat!
Would definately like to come back to Fraser Island and do some more exploring, lots of history to the island and still a lot more to see and do we just had a little snapshot really!
We got dropped off back at the campsite at Hervey Bay, just sorted our things out and planned to have an early night as we was up at 530am to get the bus to Noosa, unfortunately that didnt happen as we bumped into a couple from liverpool and got chatting for far too long!!!
